Saghar Anvari works primarily in watercolor, a medium she values for its ability to move between realism and the surreal, detail and fluidity. Many of her images begin with photographs she takes while traveling, returning to places and moments she has personally experienced and translating them through water and pigment.
For Anvari, travel interrupts the repetition of everyday life and opens a way of seeing through other eyes. Painting extends that movement: she is drawn to scenes, faces and quiet encounters that remain with her, allowing them to return on paper as invitations for the viewer to pause and accompany her briefly.
